Conch shell and Pedestal Prays are the containers for holy water and consecrated water used in the royal ceremonies, especially provided to the king in the coronation ceremony. The conch shell is a symbol of auspice and one of Narayana’s symbols. Using the conch shell as the container of the holy water or the consecrated water for pouring onto one’s head or hands is an ancient tradition. It is believed that the holy water from the conch shell pouring to anyone is propitious and able to prevent evil.
